Qinghai Nationalities University was established in December 1949, it is the earliest university that was founded in Qinghai province and also one of the earliest universities that was established after the founding of New China. Qinghai Nationalities University is the unit that obtained the master degree rights nationwide.

There are 15 faculties, 5 directly subordinated teaching departments. The majors are literature, physic science, law, economics, administration, education, history, medicine, engineering, etc. Qinghai Nationalities University is cultivating doctoral students jointly with Central Nationnalities University of China, Nankai University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. There are 10 master degree authorization of First-Level disciplines, 72 master degree authorization centers of class 2, 3 master degree enrollments and 53 undergraduate majors. Besides, there are 8 provincial key disciplines, 9 provincial key laboratories and 20 provincial basic college and university laboratories.Moreover, there are 3 national fine courses, 4 national special courses, 6 provincial teaching demonstration centers, 43 provincial excellent courses and provincial key construction courses. On top of these,there are 1 national research institute, 9 provincial scientific research institutes and 13 school level scientific research institutes.

There are 1,146 teaching staff in total, including 654 full-time teachers among which there are 369 teachers with master’s degree and doctor’s degree, 6 tenured professors, 204 professors and researchers, 275 associate professors and associate researchers. There are 12,000 students who are from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of 39 nationalities such as Han, Tibetan, Hui, Tu, Sala, and Mongolian. 1,110 of them are postgraduates. Thus far, Qinghai Nationalities University has cultivated more than 76,000 qualified talents of different nationalities for the nation.

Qinghai Nationalities University has undertaken over 300 of various types and levels of research projects , including 230 items of national and provincial level. Compiling and Publishing 4 types of the academic journals for own and public issues, 《Research of Qinghai Nationalitie》,《Journal of Qinghai Nationalities University》(philosophy and social sciences edition, Tibetan edition), and《Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Forum》.
Qinghai Nationalities University covers an area of 1,017 acre.Whereby,building area is 0.4272million square meters, and fixed assets is 33.1 million. Books in total are more than 123.26 million copies,which includes 4 sets of Tibetan Tripitakas of Han and Tibetan version.

Qinghai Nationalities University is the certified education unit that approved by the education department to recruit and cultivate foreign students , it is also the university that is authorized to cultivate students in getting government scholarship. At this monment ,there are more than 200 foreign students in the university. Qinghai Nationalities University has cooperative relationships with Technical University Dresden, Nanzan University, Institut de Management Europe-Asie, University of Malaya, Fort Hays State University, Hannam University, Sudan Africa International University and Taiwan Qinyi University of Science and Technology, Fo Guang University, etc.

Now almost all of the teachers and students of Qinghai Nationalities University are full of zeal to establish ourselves in Qinghai construction,looking forward to the whole nation ,strongly emphasizes on connotation construction , besides improve on the quality of education and teaching .lastly,with great enthusiasm and efforts to strive for becoming the first-class comprehensive nationalities university within Qinghai Tibet Plateau.
