China Agricultural University (CAU) is one of the top ranked key national universities in China and directly subordinated to the Ministry of Education. CAU President is appointed by the Central Government. As the oldest agricultural higher educational institution in China , CAU’s history can be dated back to October 1905, when the College of Agriculture was founded by the Qing Dynasty in the Jing Shi Da Xue Tang (the former Imperial University of Peking and the present Peking University).

CAU’s Centennial Celebration and the World Agriculture Congress were grandly opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 16 September 2005. A total of 300 delegates of 128 universities, colleges and institutes from 24 countries actively participated in the event, marking it a successful milestone in CAU’s history.

It was the greatest honor for CAU to receive warm congratulations and personal greetings from President HU Jintao in his written congratulatory message highly commending the historical event, its important contribution towards China ’s agriculture and rural development, and encouraging CAU to achieve more in terms of construction of new socialist countryside and a prosperous society.

China Agricultural University is authorized to award academic degrees at BSc, MSc, PhD and Post-PhD levels. The Undergraduate Program is organized within one of the 14 colleges, and Masters and Doctoral Programs are conducted under the direction of the Graduate School, which is the first such school of this kind among all agricultural universities in China . The educational programs cover a broad spectrum in both natural and social sciences, across the fields of food and agriculture, livestock, soil and water, engineering, economics, environment and energy, management, science, literature and law.

CAU is proud of the high qualifications of its academic professionals. All of them stand at the very front of their respective specialized areas not only in China , but also in the world. In addition to dozens of prestigious senior scientists, many renowned younger scientists have emerged in the team. Honorable and guest professorship has been awarded to a number of world-known scientists both at home and abroad.

CAU has a total of 1,555 highly qualified faculty members, including five Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, six Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 526 Professors, and 755 Associate Professors.

CAU currently offers 95 Doctoral Programs, 171 Master Programs, and 64 Undergraduate Programs. In addition, 12 Post-Doctor Working-Stations are well.

So far CAU has 11 Master Programs and 11 Doctoral Programs delivered in English.

All the educational programs are open to international students as well, although as is typical everywhere, there are certain basic Chinese language requirements necessary prior to their enrollment.

CAU pays great importance to international cooperation and exchange activities. CAU has foreign students at different levels from more than 80 countries in Africa, America , Asia, Europe and Oceania.
