Founded in 1938, Guangxi Arts Institute (GAI) is located in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Bordered by the picturesque South Lake, GAI is the oldest and largest provincial comprehensive arts institution of higher learning among the five ethnic nationality autonomous regions in China. In the current Undergraduate Education Level Evaluation carried out by the Ministry of Education, GAI was awarded the Excellent Level.
Its subordinate colleges and departments are Guilin Academy of Chinese Painting, College of Fine Arts, College of Design, College of Music, College of Music Education, College of Dance, College of Humanity, College of Adult and the Affiliated Middle School. The undergraduate majors offered include 14 majors with 57 directions. And it is authorized to confer bachelor degrees in all majors and master degrees in musicology, fine arts and design. The authorities and academic school journal is Exploration in Arts.
At present, GAI has developed into a comparatively large-scaled arts institution of higher learning with advanced condition, capable faculties, multi-specialties, multi-operating levels. It is well equipped with modern teaching facilities such as professional labs of various kinds, studios, multi-media labs, arts appreciation classrooms, music appreciation rooms, sound labs, computer classrooms and campus networks.
