Nanjing Normal University (NNU) is one of the national key universities under "Project 211". Its history can be traced back to the "Sanjiang Normal Institute" established in 1902. The university claims three campuses, namely "Suiyuan campus", which is renowned as “The Most Beautiful Campus in the East”, "Xianlin campus" and "Zijin campus" with a total area of more than 2,000,100 square meters (or more than 200 hectares).
Nanjing Norma University has 24 schools and colleges and offers 80 undergraduate programs, 199 graduate programs and 130 doctoral programs. NNU embraces diverse branches of learning, such as humanities, social sciences, science, engineering, art and so on. There were 25,000 full-time students in 2011.
Nanjing Normal University is among one of the earliest universities authorized by the Ministry of Education to open up to the outside world and is also the National Base for Teaching Chinese for Foreigners. International students have made their way to NNU since 1965 and so far more than 20,000 international students have completed their study in Nanjing Normal University. In 2011, the university accepted 1600 students from 123 counties and regions. As one of the base of “Chinese Government Scholarship Students Foundation Program”, Nanjing Normal University is famous for her outstanding program of Teaching Chinese Language as A Second Language. NNU attaches great importance to academic exchange and has established partnerships with 144 universities in 28 countries. With the support of the government and society, over 20,000 faculty members shall strive for the course of shaping NNU into a comprehensive university noted for education, international exchange and scientific research.
NNU library, the third largest in Jiangsu Province, claims more than 2,500,000 books. Jingwen Library on Xianlin Campus is the largest university library in Jiangsu province with the most advanced equipments and facilities.
