After more than half a century of unremitting efforts, Liaoning University has become the only comprehensive university in Liaoning province, including literature, history，philosophy, economy, law, science, engineering, management and many other disciplines. The school has three campuses. They are Chongshan campus and Puhe campus in Shenyang , Wusheng campus in Liaoyang. The school districts cover an area of 2016 mu. The building area is 628000 square meters. It is one of the national main universities of"211 project".
Liaoning University was founded in November 1948. The northeast people's government established business technical college school in Shenyang. The school recruited four-year undergraduates at the beginning of the foundation. On September 15, 1958, Northeast institute of finance and economics, Shenyang normal university and Shenyang Russian school combined, and set up into Liaoning University. Zhu De inscribed with the names.

The school has 25 colleges. They are college of liberal arts, history institute, philosophy and public management institute, college of economics and business , law school, institute of foreign languages, broadcast moviedom institute, institute of international relations, Marxism institute, the Asia-Australia business school, Xinhua international business school, Benshan art college, Maths institute, institute of physics, chemical institute, college of pharmacy, liberal arts college, environmental institute, information institute, light industry institute, humane science and technology college, International College for Chinese Language Studies,adult-education institute, institute of public foundation.
We have 1230 full-time teachers, including270 professors, 457associate professors, 88 doctoral students’advisers, and 88 experts who enjoy special government’s allowances from the state council,1 professor of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, 1 double hired academician .
Currently there are 62 undergraduates’ majors; 26 master's degree authorization centers of Level 1 major and 160 master's degree authorization centers of secondary discipline. With the EMBA, MBA, MPA, JM, MTCSOL and MFA, there are 21 professional degree authorization centers. There exists 8 level-1 doctor's degree authorization centers of theoretical economics, applied economics, industry and commerce management, Chinese language and literature, philosophy, law, chemical and statistics, and so on.There are 62 secondary disciplines with doctor's degree authorization center and there are 3 post-doctoral research stations. The school has three main national disciplines: the world economy, national economics and finance , 32 provincial main disciplines; with the national economics foundation talent training base, college counselor training and research base and the ministry of education humanities and social science research base - transition countries economic and political research center. 
There are two national experimental teaching demonstration centers, seven provincial key research bases of humanities social science, 7 provincial key laboratories, 2 provincial engineering technology research centers, five provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 6 laboratories built by central and local of the special discipline full of advantages, seven teaching experiment platform with central financial support , two provincial college innovation team in the school. By February 2012, the school has full-time students of more than 28000 , including more than 20000 undergraduate students, more than 6700 graduate student, more than 1300 foreign students.
Now the school’s building construction area is 628000 square meters , 28 experimental teaching centers of different kinds and 123 practice bases, teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment valued at 177.77 million Yuan. The construction of public service system is more perfect, the total area of library is 42000 square meters, the library collection is more than 230 volumes,rare books are over 300 .The school was appointed as the library of literature collection for United Nations,got the approval of the state council "the ancient protection unit". The school has history museum, museum of natural history, collection of more than 2000 pieces of cultural relics and more than 16000biological specimens. Campus network is part of China education and research network and the node of universities in north area of Shenyang.
Since the foundation of the school, Liaoning university has educated more than 150000 students of various kinds ,has cultivated more than 3000 long-term foreign students and more than 8000 short-term foreign students for the United States, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Britain, France and other 94 countries .School has built Confucius institutes respectively with the Russian Irkutsk national university, Lithuania Vilnius university, university of Dakar Senegal , and elaborately build Confucius institute brand across Asia, Europe, the three continents. Now the international education has stepped into the new stage of development.
